Clueless QCAL (As if!) — Here Batter Batter Batting

Let’s talk a bit about batting. I’ve only ever used Warm & Natural (or Warm & White) by

The Warm Company

so (like the rest of this QCAL), I don’t have any personal experience or knowledge to share! But, if you’ve read all the previous emails, you know I know how to research.

I can’t take credit for finding

this blog post

by Ben Millet where he talks about batting for quilt coats–someone in one of the QCAL IG groups shared it with me (sorry for not crediting you…I can’t find the message).

The main takeaway (for me), is he shares this picture of the different battings. You can find the

full image here

 (to zoom in on).

I found a few other pages online (that I find helpful) that talk about the different types of batting. They talk about loft, drape, shrinkage, warmth, etc. While they aren’t specifically geared towards quilt coats, like Ben’s post above, hopefully they are still helpful for either this project or future quilts.
Connecting Threads has a short and sweet post about the differences between cotton, silk, wool, and polyester.

Lee of Freshly Pieced talks about 6 types of batting, her experience and when to use them.
